Presidents Message

Along with the committee of the Neerim District Agricultural and Horticultural Society I’m very excited to present the program f

It has been a very busy year for the committee organising its two annual events- which along with the Country show, include a VAS ltd affiliated horse show which was held in December last year. A huge thank you to our Horse Secretary, Tamara Phillips who organized a very successful competition including revamped show jumping, this is a huge task for one person. We would love to hear from anyone wishing to be involved in the horse committee and helping of the running of the horse shows.

2015 has been a wonderful year for the developments at the reserve, seeing the long awaited sand arena going in and the completion of the cattle/horse bay. Both projects were given a head start with grants for the Society. Firstly, with the Victorian Government for the wash bay and then a challenge grant from the Neerim District Community Bank for stage 1 of the arena of $10000. Along with equal inputs by the grounds 2 horse tenant clubs, Neerim Hall Committee of Management and Show Society of $1250, funds were secured and works began. Stage 2  became possible with huge amounts of donated time and machinery by show Society members, who spent endless days preparing its base, AusCivil who donated the transport and use of their roller and the Neerim Hall COM who paid for the rest of stage 2. A big thank you to Grant Phillips, Frank Schellekens, AusCivil and the Neerim Hall COM. Stage 3 may be possible if funds become available which will enable it to be fenced. I look forward to increased use of both of these wonderful community assets.

Organising and running a modern day show involves a lot of dedication and input by all committee members and I thank everyone all your efforts throughout the year and who all bring something to the success of the show. A big thank you to the many many helpers before, during and after show day, there is always an army of them. A big Thanks to Barb Hill who has organised a busting hallful of displays from local groups and families when she has not been well and also for helping me cater at the horse show. Also Donna Valentine who just continues to be so organized in her Secretary role and Bonnie McCall who is just also so wonderfully organized in her role as Trade space Coordinator that I had to make special mention!! I also wish to congratulate Kym Robinson who at the Societies AGM   was nominated for a life membership of the Society for her many, many years of voluntary commitment.   It is this dedication that keep our wonderful show going.

The support this year from our sponsors has been wonderful once again, a big thanks to Rob Evans (Country show sponsorship) and Tamara Phillips (horse show sponsorship) who have both have spent weeks walking the pavements and received our biggest support yet.

Show day is set to be another great, family fun day out, remember to take a wonderful scenic flight over Neerim with the helicopter rides, see if man can verse steam power, purchase your rides wristband and don’t forget to get your cooking/flower/vegy entries in on show day for an expanded hall program. There is plenty to see and do. Enjoy our wonderful community event!

Regards
Andrea Schellekens
